What is Android and iOS?

The operating system allows a smartphone to provide various functions, similar to a computer. This is because we can install various applications on the operating system.

The most popular operating systems for smartphones are Android and iOS. Android is made by Google, whereas iOS is made by Apple. The source code for Android is open so that anyone can use it, which means it is installed on various smartphones. By contrast, iOS is only installed on iPhones because it is developed by Apple solely for use with its products.

Since Android and iOS work differently, application (app) developers must make specific apps for Android and iOS devices. For example, Google Earth apps are available for both iPhones and Android phones.
