When a PC is turned on, the Microsoft Windows logo appears on the screen. Windows is the name given to the operating system. An operating system is the software that manages computer hardware and application software. Moreover, it provides common services for the application software such as PowerPoint, the Internet, and games run on top of the operating system.
Let me explain how an operating system works using examples from real life. At the start of a new school year, the school sends admission letters to new students. The school prepares to accept the new students according to its own operating system. Simply put, its preparation proceeds according to the established operating system, such as assigning students to classes, preparing textbooks, and assigning a teacher to each class.
A hotel also has its own operating system for managing its activities. The operating system in this case refers to the system used to operate hotel services such as room reservation, customer service, meal preparation, room cleaning, and parking management. The operating system is so good that we don’t have to worry about cleaning the room, preparing the dishes, and so on when we book into the hotel. The hotel has its own efficient management system, which means everything will be well prepared.
The same goes for computers. As a computer has an operating system, we don’t have to worry about how the mouse is recognized by the computer, how the mouse’s movements are displayed on the screen, how messages are sent to other computers, or how pictures are displayed on the screen.
